To cheer myself up...

Surgery!

This was me at the halfway point. They take a biopsy, check it and then if needed cut more. I was lucky, they got everything the first time, so 10 mins after this they stitched up the little whole (with 4 stitches!!) and sent me back home :)

Monday 13th July 2015

What a lovely and relaxing day it's been. I have spent the whole day reading. I did a bit of washing though and trimmed my hair lol! I've started reading the biography of Gareth Thomas the rugby player who I think was one of the first to come out as gay. It's a good read so far and so much of it is so familiar, although not really personally familiar. I think I'm gonna finish the book in lightening speed. After I'd had a bath around half two I decided to go for a little walk just through the army base and back home via Kings Avenue. Whilst I was out I started to feel really quite self-conscious about the stitches in my nose, much much more so than I did one the actual day of the surgery when I was actually right in the middle of busy Cambridge. I guess then I was under the influence of adrenalin, whereas today it was just the holiday-delicate me, do that when I passed a couple of school children I had to look away. Even as I was doing this I thought how stupid I was being. Anyway, the main observation that I did go on to make during this walk was when I returned home. It had begun to rain, do everything was damp, but first I noticed how unkempt the front garden was, with long yellowing grass and then how overgrown and just generally messy the porch area was! I felt a bit ashamed really, what must those tesco delivery men think!! Lol! So I really must get my bum into gear and do something about all that over the next few days of my holiday. Actually do some gardening like I told those two ladies at Addenbrooke's that I would!

Dentist

I started getting a tiny bit of toothache over the last couple of days, but last night it was worse so I decided I should phone the dentist this morning so that if I do have an infection I could get some antibiotics before it gets too painfull. I can remember before when I had a similar type of toothache, when I started taking the antibiotics, the pain went in less than a day. So I was very relieve when the dentis said she could see me the same afternoon. So I am now back, and although there was not much sign of an infection, the fact that there was pain there meant she gave me some antibiotics, so hopefully I'll soon be in the clear.

They had a very good x-ray machine there, it's all digital so you see the x-ray picture in real time. I had a good look at mine, it looked a bit like the x-ray of a hand with nail varnish on! Strange lol! The only downside is that it all cost me 35 quid boohoo :(

Sleet

Well, that's Monday morning out of the way. It wasn't too bad actually. I slept really well last night, so I think that helped. Last night we watched The Other Boleyn Girl, it was good and lots of it was filmed in and around Ely Cathedral, and watching it I recognised parts of the cathedral. But at the end, we watched through all the credits and there was no mention of Ely at all :(

Patrick and I also played Scrabble again, and I lost as usual. I don't think I've ever won a game of Scrabble in my whole life, even when playing with people whose first language isn't even English...what a disgrace! lol!

I'm now off into town and think I shall go to the Nero's that's in Heffers' bookshop and have a nice large latte and read some more of my book, only problem is that yet again the weather's horrid, today it's sleet!

Back!

Wow, it's been absolutely ages since I wrote anything here! But I have been quite busy with bits and bobs. But now I seem to have settled down into a more relaxed routine, hence I think I am finding time to write here again.

I had 17 days in Gran Canaria over Christmas, it was lovely and the weather was really nice, it felt like summer here the whole time. It was very expensive though, the exchange rate was rubbish 1 euro to 1 pound! So I ended up spending loads of money and also of worrying all the time of how much money I was spending. The holiday was good though because it taught me that more is in fact less when it comes to the amount of time you are away. I'd always thought that the longer I could possible stay in Gran Canaria was the best thing to do, but after 17 days there I don't feel the same. I think the ideal now will be no more than 1 week away, but have more spending money. At the end of the 17 days I just couldn't wait to get home.

It's been about 5 weeks since I came back and I am now forbidding myself from even looking at flights until at least the end of March lol!
