Gran Canaria

Tomorrow Tim and I are off to lovely Gran Canaria, yet again! Only this time we're staying for two weeks. I am determined to do loads and loads of relaxing and doing not much else. I'll try to keep updating this blog though. We are flying from Stansted and the flight times are good, we take off at 2.45pm, so no early mornings to cope with. Tim's gonna come and collect me around 11 and then his Dad's gonna drive us to the airport. It's gonna be fab :)

Kissing

This was my horoscope for this week:

Leo (July 23-Aug. 22): To let a fool kiss you is bad. To let a kiss fool you is worse.

How wise.

Back to Normality

Here's my day so far...I had to wake up a little earlier this morning as we had a meeting scheduled at work for 10am, so 30 mins less time in bed boohoo :( Luckily I easily found a parking space so I didn't have to rush for the train.

I got into work around 9.20am checked my emails, there was nothing, which was good, no extra work (one last night from my Canadian man, I'm gonna reply after writing this;-). The meeting was in the building I worked in up until January and it was quite funny going back there but not working there anymore, I'm a sentimental old fool lol! The meeting itself went very well, my boss is very happy with the work we are all doing, we have new staff members starting soon and we're gonna de diversifying and doing a lot of different things, so all very exciting! The rest of the morning was pretty mundane, just doing repetative tasks, but at lest I could listen to Woman's Hour on my iPod, so not that bad lol!

At lunch I had a text from my friend Tim saying he was in Borders Starbucks with Booboo (he's a 60something eccentric man, can't remember why we call him booboo, but it's brom Barney bear hehe), it's always funny talking with him because he is always horrified with the things me and Tim tell him.

This afternoon work has been quite slow, I need to use a piece of equipment but someone else is using it, so I have to wait, that's why I'm writing this now. When I finish here I'm gonna meet Estefania Beaverhausen in town and we're gonna get something to eat. Next week she starts her new job and then the week after that is off to Singapore and Australia for months! Will Jack forgive her. And like the conversation we had the other day, let's hope he doesn't die!

Long day.

Today has been a long and hard day. I had to take my Mum to hospital because she needed to have a bone scan. She has been having problems with her neck recently, this compounded with the MS has left her being not very well at all. The plan for today was that I would drive her and my Dad to the hospital with my Dad sitting behind her, trying to hold her steady. I would have felt much happier if they had decided to go there by ambulance, but they had decided to go like that and I wasn't gonna add any more stresses by arguing with my Dad. Anyway, the journey there wasn't as bad as I was expecting, she'd taken some codine before we left and that seemed to be relieving her from pain. When we got to the clinic she was seen almost immediately. This was the first of two trips we would have to make. This first one was to give her an injection and then 4 hours later we would return and they would scan her bones. When they came out from the first injection and we returned home she seemed much happier. I drove them back home and then returned to work for a bit. I was gonna collect them again at 1.30pm....thank God I have a good boss.

When we got back to the hospital this time she seemed to be in more pain so Dad gave her another codine in the car park and then we went back to the clinic. We got there around 2.15pm but although there was no one else waiting she didn't go through to the scan until 2.45. That half an hour was horrible. It was obvious she was in a lot of pain and couldn't get comfortable. At one point she started crying bless her heart, it was terrible. I went up to the reception desk and asked the boy there if there was anything he could do, he rushed off to see if he could find someone who might be able to help. In the mean time Dad had given her another codine. Then the boy returned and said he had found a bed where she could lie down, but at the same time the doctor came through and said they were ready to do the scan. I was a bit relieved then, I knew she'd be ok with the doctors. I went to the shops and bought her some cakes and chocolates and by the time I got back they were just coming out. She looked ok which was a relief. At last we could go home! Going home was a bit of a nightmare as it was rush hour.

So far there is no idea what is wrong with her neck although I think the doctor thinks that it is connected with her breast cancer from 3 years ago. So I think there are more horrible times ahead. But at least today is now over and I can go to bed, I'm knackered.

May Ball

On Wednesday night/Thursday morning I worked at the Sidney Sussex May Ball. It was a nightmare! The Ball itself was lovely, but working wasn't. We started off doing the meal, that was fine, all the students looked sexy and they were all friendly and happy too. I was enjoying this part. The meal went on until about midnight by which time the rest of the students who weren't dining arrived. 2000 of them! I was then sent over to the bbq where for the next 4 hours I served beef steaks followed at 3.30am by bacon (breakfast). It was horrible. I'm sooo glad I only said I'd do one May Ball. I very nearly did the Trinity one, thank God I didn't. I will stick with the normal 3 hour affairs from now on I think. Still, at least I made some extra cash for the Gran Canaria trip. I lost count of the number of times during the Ball that I kept reassuring myself that this would all translate to cocktails on the beach in Gran Canaria, but it was probably 20 million.

Anyway, here is a tree of the same type but I think this one is much less old. It has a bit of the character of the old tree, but only a little. Maybe this is the granddaughter of my lovely tree. Posted by Picasa

They've cut down one of my favourite trees! This used to be a really really old looking tree. I used to love looking at it, it just looked so old, like it was maybe 200 years old. It looked like it was half dead, so that's probably why they had to chop it down. But I'm sad it's gone, I just wish I'd taken a picture of it before this :( Posted by Picasa
